Apply to the University You Want

This application guide contains all the application information that each student will need to apply to the host university and begin their international mobility, in accordance with the UC Applicant Route.

This information is specifically for students to whom the VRAI has explicitly confirmed a bilateral exchange or double degree/qualification spot.

However, we want each applicant to be able to know this information in advance to prepare their application in the best possible way and anticipate all the requirements requested by the host universities. We remind you that the VRAI is the only Vice-Rectorate with the authority to make a nomination for bilateral exchange, double degree, and double qualification, so you should always channel your questions through us.

It is important that you constantly review the information, as it may be modified due to the updates we make semester by semester.

Application Set

Make your Study Agreement

When you do a bilateral exchange, a double degree/qualification program, or a professional internship abroad, you can opt for a credit transfer request, which can be approved or rejected by your academic unit. Follow these steps to properly complete your credit transfer process!

Pre-transfer

  1. The student confirms the spot granted by the VRAI to carry out a bilateral exchange at the host institution.
  2. The VRAI will provide the student with the form “Study Agreement”, which is equivalent to an informed conversation between the student and their AU immediately after the student confirms the spot granted by the VRAI to carry out a bilateral exchange.
  3. The student, together with their AU, will be able to evaluate a pre-transfer of up to ten (10) tentative subjects after reviewing the course catalog of the host institution confirmed in the exchange spot. In case the student is not clear about the subjects to enroll in the host institution and/or the AU does not have the capacity to determine said pre-transfer, Form 1 must set the criteria and requirements that the AU deems appropriate to carry out the subject transfer upon the student's return from mobility.
  4. Both the student and their AU sign the Study Agreement and keep a copy of this form.
  5. The student has the obligation to leave a copy of this form in their exchange folder prior to the start of their bilateral exchange.

Confirmation or Modification

  1. The student is obligated to confirm or modify the tentative subjects established in the Form.
  2. The student must submit to their academic unit Form 2: Modification or Confirmation to the Study Agreement within the first 30 days of having started the bilateral exchange abroad and/or having officially enrolled in courses at the host institution, indicating the definitive subjects they enrolled in and attaching the academic programs for each of them according to the instructions given by their AU. Similarly, this applies to students who could not complete a pre-transfer prior to the start of their exchange (step 1, point 4).
  3. A modification of the Study Agreement is defined as the sending of the official academic load enrolled in the host institution that has undergone adjustments in any of the previously pre-transferred subjects due to: lack of vacancy in the host institution, schedule incompatibility, disinterest in enrolling in the subject, subject not scheduled for the study semester, failure to meet the necessary prerequisites to take the subject at the host institution, AU recommendation to change the subject, etc.
  4. To modify, the student must fill out Form 2 indicating the enrolled academic load and the adjustments made to said load. They must also attach the academic programs for each of them, in the format indicated by their respective AU (email, form, etc.) and within the same deadline established in point 2. The AU has a period of 10 working days to indicate to the student the status of their request and the instructions to carry out Step 3 of this guide. If deemed pertinent, the AU may request changes to a subject and/or take an additional subject.
  5. The confirmation of the Study Agreement is defined as sending the official academic load registered at the host institution that has not undergone modifications according to what was agreed in the pre-validation point of Form 1; or, sending the official academic load without pre-validation, which was registered following the criteria and requirements set by the AU in Form 1.
  6. To confirm, the student must complete Form 2 and request validation of the academic load from their AU, attaching the academic programs in the format indicated (email, form, etc.) within the same deadline established in point 2. The AU has a period of 10 working days to inform the student of the status of their request and instructions to carry out Step 3 of this guide. If deemed pertinent, the AU may request changes to a course and/or take an additional course.
  7. In case of modification and confirmation, the student is obligated to leave a copy of Form 2 in their exchange folder within the same deadline established in point 2.

Validation

  1. The validation process is carried out personally by the student upon return from their mobility with their respective AU, and is subject to compliance with what is specified in steps 1 and 2 of this course validation guide for outgoing student mobility.
  2. The student understands and accepts that the validation of courses will be done in accordance with the regulations in force at the institution and their Academic Unit.
  3. To be eligible for validation, the student must have had an adequate overall academic performance and the courses they wish to validate must have been passed with a grade equal to or higher than the minimum passing grade of the host institution.
  4. The student must respect the minimum and/or maximum number of credits that the host institution and UC require them to enroll in and that they have indicated in the Study Agreement or in its eventual Modification.
  5. The AU may determine a minimum number of credits to be validated in an exchange abroad, whether it is in-person or completely remote. It should be considered that the maximum number of credits to accumulate is 60 UC credits in one semester, or what the academic unit allows with the agreement of the Academic Vice-Rectorate. In the case of courses taken in a mixed exchange (in-person at UC and remote at another institution), the maximum number of credits to enroll must include both the equivalent in credits enrolled at the host institution and those at UC.
  6. The Undergraduate Student Regulations establish that the Faculty or Unit may use the grade “C” (without numerical equivalence) for validations from other Chilean or foreign institutions. Likewise, it may be graded with a mark that will be considered for calculating the cumulative weighted average. The Academic Vice-Rectorate will provide guidelines to the Units to carry out these validations.
  7. Regarding the transcript, the student has a period of 5 working days to inform their AU and the VRAI of the arrival of their grades. The AU may determine that it is possible to begin the validation process with downloadable transcripts from foreign institutions' portals, similar to the cumulative record that the student downloads from their UC Portal, which would allow starting the validation process while waiting for the official grades. This option under no circumstances replaces the official transcript or allows for officiating a validation before Academic Records.
  8. The AU may determine whether or not to accept validation of courses that only provide a certificate of attendance or Pass/No Pass grades, which must be informed to the student at the time of signing Form 1 and be stipulated in it.

Receive the Acceptance Letter

After you apply to the host university, they must review and communicate their decision about your acceptance into the exchange, dual degree, and dual degree program. If the university's decision is positive, they will send an offer or letter of acceptance to either the student or the VRAI mobility team. Only once received, your mobility will be confirmed and you will be able to start planning your trip. Remember that there is no stipulated deadline to receive the letter, so you must be patient and wait for the indications of the mobility team.
