International Research Internship Framework

Description

The objective of this agreement is to regulate international undergraduate and/or graduate internships with Institutions or Universities. This academic activity will strengthen the academic competencies of students, who will develop, support, or complete a research and/or creative project in a public or private institution.

These agreements can be general, meaning open to the entire University, or specific to Faculty/ies or Academic Unit(s).
It must be determined if the agreement is at the Undergraduate and/or Graduate level.

Involved Reviewers

  • Vice-Rectory of International Affairs.
  • Faculty/Academic Unit.
  • Legal Affairs Office.
  • Counterpart Institution.

Responsibilities

The results of the International Research Internship Agreement will be evaluated halfway through its validity and prior to its completion. Therefore, the respective Faculty/Unit will be asked to provide information on the activities and projects carried out with the counterpart.

Estimated Completion Time

3 to 6 months.

Processing Flow

  • Check in the International Agreements Repository if there is already a Framework Agreement for Research Internships with the same characteristics as the one sought to be established.
  • If it does not exist, contact the International Agreements and Evaluation team (jialarcon@uc.cl) indicating the characteristics of the Framework Agreement for Research Internships to be regulated and the corresponding institution.
  • The team will send an Agreement Proposal form.
  • After receiving the form, the team will evaluate the request and notify if:
    a) Additional information is required.
    b) The proposal is accepted and can continue the process.
    c) It is not appropriate to continue with the request.

If the proposal is accepted, the Faculty or Unit must obtain the signature of the form by the Dean or the highest authority of the Unit to formally initiate the agreement process.

After receiving the signed form, the Agreements and Evaluation team will contact the counterpart to begin the agreement negotiation.

The counterpart will work on a proposal and send it to the UC Agreements and Evaluation team.

  • The Agreements and Evaluation team will review the proposal and work on the document together with the Legal Affairs Office (DAJ).
  • The agreement will be iterated between the counterpart and the DAJ until a final version is obtained.

If the agreement includes clauses that may compromise the University’s indemnity, the Faculty or Unit must submit an Internal Mandatory Declaration (DOI) to continue with the process. This must be signed by the Dean of the Faculty or the highest authority of the Unit.

  • Will send the final version of the agreement to the Legal Affairs Directorate (DAJ) and coordinate the signing process.
  • Only signatures from legal representatives of the institutions involved will be accepted.
  • Once signed, the agreement will be filed in the VRAI records and uploaded to the Repository of International Agreements.
  • The VRAI will send a final copy to the counterpart and ensure that the UC Faculty/Unit also receives it.

UC Agreement Models

The Vice-Rectory of International Affairs encourages the use of UC models to expedite the iteration and signing of the international agreement. Consult for UC drafts with the head of International Agreements, Javiera Alarcón (jialarcon@uc.cl).
